Mountain View Little League prepares annually to compete in All Stars Tournaments.  In 2018, MVLL plans to organize five teams to participate: 8-10, 9-11, Majors (10-12), 50/70 (11-13), and Juniors (12-14).  MVLL will follow the Little League-approved process to select these teams. The process is no secret and is outlined here to ensure every child interested in being considered is given that opportunity, and to give the parents a clear understanding of the process:

Starting near the end of March, MVLL will distribute All Star Consideration forms to each child in Majors and Minors. Each child is required to complete a form regardless if they are or are not interested in participating. We do this so that we can get an accurate count of how many kids are interested, and we archive the form in the event a child/parent claim that they were not given the opportunity to be considered. MVLL will gather each form by league age and will use that as a tool to determine the level of participation and planning. The form is required to be returned by May 12th.

Majors (10-12): The All-Star team is selected through a two-part process. Those players that have completed and turned in an All-Star consideration form will be put on a ballot. Each player in majors will get to vote for 12 players; they cannot vote for a player on their team or themselves. That vote is worth 1 point per vote. The Manager of each Majors team will also get to vote for 12 players, again not for their team or their child. Each vote from a manager is worth 10 points per vote. The League President, VP of Admin, and VP of Baseball will count the votes (if any have a child in that division, they will be replaced by another Board Member). Those votes are then kept under lock and key until the All-Star Manager is selected, and to discuss the roster. The top 8 vote getters are automatically qualified to the All-Star Roster. The other 4 to 5 players will be a coach’s pick, but must be justified based on need, and where the child was in the voting.

8-10 All Stars; 9-11 All Stars:   Teams are selected based on which players submit consideration forms.  The All Stars Committee will review all forms and, after discussion with the appointed Managers, determine teams.

50/70 and Juniors:  Teams are selected based on which players submit consideration forms.  The All Stars Committee will review all forms and, after discussion with the appointed Managers, determine teams.

Depending on the number of players to be considered and time restrictions, a tryout MAY be scheduled for any of the teams.  However, this tryout may not take place earlier than June 1, as per Little League International rules. All managers/coaches in Minors, Majors, 50-70, and Juniors are invited to participate in the tryout and provide a documented feedback form on their respected recommendations. The League and selected All Star Manager(s) will use that as a template to ensure we have looked at each child and make the best recommendation for selection. MVLL will carry 12 to 13 players on each roster.

How much is the All Stars fee?

MVLL will make the All Stars fee as affordable as possible, but expect costs to be $175 – $200 per player.  This covers uniforms, insurance, and field fees, but also an intensive baseball experience and the opportunity to represent our community in a highly visible way.

We will be on vacation for a couple of days in early June – is my child ineligible?

We understand that family vacations are important, and understand if a player will miss a day or two for a family commitment.  We ask you to be completely honest about your child’s availability starting from June 1.  Usually a short time away can be discussed and planned for, but time away during the tournament will create some issues.

What forms do we need to prepare to participate?

  1. All Stars Consideration Form (due to the Snack Bar by May 12)
  2. School Enrollment Form (due immediately upon being named to a team, no later than June 9: HAVE THIS FORM COMPLETED ASAP, as it is difficult once school is out)
  3. Medical Release Form (due immediately upon being named to a team, no later than June 9)
  4. Birth Certificate (due immediately upon being named to a team, no later than June 9: MUST BE ORIGINAL, to be returned at the end of the tournament)
